New Directions
¶Current Work
We are currently funded by a SSHRC Insight Grant (2018-2023). Our proposal
summary and expected outcomes are available here. Ongoing projects include:
-
Drawing and checking features on the interactive Agas map.
-
An edition of John Stow’s A Survey of London. We have nearly completed the 1598 text and are well on our way to completing the 1633 text. We are planning a versioned edition of the complete 1598, 1603, 1618, and 1633 texts. Each successively longer text comments on changes to each location since the previous edition. Together, the four texts give us astonishingly rich detail about the tranformation of London over the period of its most rapid growth. As our progress chart attests, our edition of the 1598 text is nearly ready to be published. We are making final corrections to 1598 as we work through tagging the 1633 text. We will move on to 1618 next and finally, if time permits, the 1603 text. The edition will include versioning tools and open-access digital surrogates of the editions of the Survey. The 1633 Survey was donated to the UVic Library by Janelle Jenstad, and 1603 and 1618 are made available courtesy of Gordon Fulton. A copy of the 1598 first issue of the first edition was purchased in 2019 by Gordon Fulton, Jenstad’s SSHRC grant, and the University of Victoria Libraries.
-
The world’s first complete collection of all the Elizabethan and Jacobean mayoral pageant books. The old-spelling transcriptions are available here. The anthology of modern editions of the mayoral shows will be published on the LEMDO platform over the years 2021-2023.
-
Our pedagogical partnerships, linking MoEML with classrooms around the world, still continue if a pedagogical partner approaches us.
We are actively seeking contributions for the Encyclopedia. If you are interested in completing or augmenting an entry, please write to the
MoEML Project Manager at londonpm@uvic.ca.
¶Next Steps
We are also very pleased to be implementing a framework for MoEML
micro-sites,projects built within MoEML’infrastructure and hosted on MoEML. The first such microsite is led by Dr. Mary Erica Zimmer (MIT): Browsing the Bookstalls of Saint Paul’s Churchyard. The second project, led by Dr. Christopher Highley (OSU), is the London Parish Project.
Mitacs Research Training Award recipient Lucas Simpson has done much of the preliminary tagging for the projected chrono-Agas map that will
allow us to add temporal functionalities to our map interface.
MoEML is one of the projects in the LINCS dataverse. Our gazetteer and data in our historical and literary personographies will be turned into RDF triples and added to a national linked-data
triplestore.
