Threadneedle Street ran east-west from Bishopsgate Street to Cornhill and the Stocks Market. It
passed the north end of the Royal Exchange and was
entirely in Broad Street Ward. Threadneedle Street, also called Three Needle Street, is clearly visible on the
Agas map. It curves southwest from St. Martin
Outwich and the pump in Bishopsgate
Street to St. Mary Woolchurch
and the Cornhill Conduit. Stow describes the churches, halls, and the
Royal Exchange in the street.
According to Harben, Threadneedle Street was also known as
Broad Street.The name possibly derives from the sign of
Three needles(Harben; BHO). The street was apparently well known for its taverns (Sugden 514). Threadneedle Street still exists in modern London.
