Castle Alley

Castle Alley was a small passage that ran north-south along the western side of the Royal Exchange, connecting Threadneedle street and Cornhill. It crossed the boundary lines of Cornhill and Broad Street wards, and was named for the sign of the Castle Tavern (Stow). Not to be confused with Castle Alley in Queenhithe ward, Castle Alley in Cornhill is unmarked on the Agas map, however it appears on both the Ogilby and Morgan map of 1676 (labelled i63) and the Rocque map of 1746.
