Carey Lane ran east-west, connecting Gutter Lane in the east and Foster Lane in the west. It ran parallel between Maiden Lane in the north and Cheapside in the south. The Agas Map labels it
Kerie la.
Stow is fairly quiet on Carey Lane. He believes that the lane’s name originates from
one Kery(Kingsford 1:314). However, Harben contends that the name
may be derived from some one of the name of ‘Kerion, or ‘Kirone,’ ‘Kyrone,’ as in the case of ‘Kyrune Lane’ in Vintry Ward(Harben).
Carey Lane remains in modern London with its shape intact.
