After uploading all the updated images and image files, I was puzzled to find that one image markup file wouldn't display properly in the XHTML view. After some investigation, it turned out to be due to invalid XML. Many of the annotations included <l> tags not enclosed in <lg> tags, and <lg> tags with no content. After fixing all these errors, the file now works OK.
