Problems with location files
My processing of location files is basically finished, but threw up some problems; these will all need to be addressed, so I've written to JJ for decisions on what to do, but I'm recording them here so that they don't get forgotten:
The following places all have files in the /locations/ folder but either don't appear in the INDEX1.xml file, or have only partial entries lacking location information:
- THAM2
- BERM2
- WALB3
- LEAD101
- WEST6
- SWAN1
- BENB1
- EAST5
- GREE2
- LEAD3
Of those with location files, the following have no information in at all:
- THAM2
- BERM2
- WALB3
- WEST6
LEAD101 (Leadenhall) looks partially-complete, but it also seems to me to overlap with LEAD1 in the index, which is also identified as "Leadenhall" (there's also LEAD2, which is "Leadenhall Street").
SWAN1 (The Swan Theatre) looks complete, but since it's absent from the index it doesn't have any map information.
BENB1 (Benbridges Inn) has a detailed write-up but no entry in the index or map info.
EAST5 (East India House) and LEAD3 (Leaden Porch) have no write-up (location file) at all, and no map info in the index.
GREE2 (The Green Gate) has a detailed write-up but no location info in the index.
How should we handle these items? I'd suggest this:
- Delete the files with no information. Alternatively, if it's useful to have the places identified even if there's no info about them, we need to specify their locations on the map so they'll show up, but if they're clicked-on, the "seeking a description" message will appear. In that case, we need to create location files with no text content.
- Merge LEAD101 with LEAD1. The former seems to have descriptive info, while the latter has map locations; together, assuming they refer to the same location, they make a fullish entry.
- Add location information to SWAN1, BENB1 and GREE2 so that they can appear on the map.
