French: discuss possible treatments of sonnets
Met EdR to talk about a collection of sonnets and very short bits of prose which (like Coup De Des) lend themselves to multiple readings (i.e. by including only certain snippets in each reading). The issue with the sonnets is that the granularity of the snippets does not neatly map onto lines (i.e., some snippets are shorter than a line, some snippets start on line x and end on line x+1). Particularly the latter presents a conflicting hierarchy problem relative to the obvious line group and line structure of the sonnets. He'll analyze a couple of poems into snippets and then we'll see if it makes any sense to use a "snippet" span, or if we should just mark up each word and then a reading is simply a concatenation of words.
Also talked about additional ways of presenting Coup De Des focussing on some kind of nested bands around a sphere, where the larger words appear in the lower bands and the smaller words appear in the higher bands.
