Tax assessment and building permit records tell us a lot about city spaces. The block, lot, and sub-lot numbers constitute a legal description of city lots and in many cases the legal descriptions are unchanged to this day. The records indicate the details, "assessed value" and owner of the properties or applicant for the proposed buildings.
