Boar’s Head (Southwark)

The Boar’s Head was one of the twelve licensed brothels in Southwark. In his 1598 Survey of London, Stow mistakenly refers to this location as the Beares heade (Stow 1598, sig. Y6v). This error is corrrected in the 1633 edition of the Survey, which lists the names of the brothels in Southwark as the Boares heade, the Crosse keyes, the Gunne, the Castle, the Crane, the Cardinals Hat, the Bel, the Swanne &c (Stow 1633, sig. 2Q3r).
