Vertexer 3 released
A new version of Vertexer was released on May 6, 2026. This is a ground-up rewrite. Changes include:
- Most significantly, this was a test of the ability of a large language model (Claude Opus 4.7) to write an entire application.
- Vertexer has also been re-based from OpenLayers to MapLibre. This facilitates easy use of vector tiles and the protomap tile format.
- More robust editing tools providing undo/redo functionality and metadata editing per feature.
- Drag-and-drop geojson import.
- Light and dark themes available.
- Now using a protomaps basemap housed at UVic, making tile retrieval faster and less prone to failure.
Vertexer is a spatial data tool for Humanities projects that need to create, edit, and export geographic features in GeoJSON or TEI XML format. It supports vector tile layers, geodesic measurement, and an extensible gazetteer registry for place-name search.
