Using Folder elements in the KML file automatically creates layers in the map, which is very convenient. Also, including copies of the same site in multiple layers does not seem to cause a problem; either the Google back-end is able to recognize that they're the same, or their rendering shows them exactly on top of each other and so you can't tell that they're multiple. This is a straightforward and simple approach to a map, and will work for the moment.
