Mallarmé: project meeting and new plan
Posted by mholmes on 23 Jan 2012 in Activity log
Met with ED to discuss the next phase of the project, which needs to get moving quickly. Outcomes:
- The focus will again be on the shorter poems and sonnets.
- The idea now is not to allow personal interpretations as readings, but to specify a list of grammatical/functional components such as "Main clauses", "Subjects", etc., as well as thematic vocabulary fields.
- Existing markup and readings will be stripped out.
- MDH will produce XSLT that can tag all individual words and punctuation as
<seg>
s, so the markup team can produce minimal markup and then run this transformation. I've made a start on this, but it's actually not straightforward at all if you also need to preserve the spaces between segments, so I'll focus on this for the next couple of days. - The encoder's web view will also be altered so that creating new readings requires you to name the reading (in this case e.g. "Main clauses"), and also preserves the order of selection of segments in the reading (not significant now, but possibly will be in future).
- A further transformation will be written to produce a reader's view, without the reading-creation tools.
- MH will create a package of tutorial and example material as he did last year.
- ED will let us know days and times when his team will be available next week for basic intro/training/booking of workstation time.
- SA will add the tutorial video to the Coup de Dès site.
