Implemented all the fixes documented here. However, the solution fails, for the following reasons: to edit the content.xml file in oXygen, you have to agree to let it wrap/reformat the file. Once you do that, and you edit all the content as in the previous posting, the conversion fails; islands of unconverted latin/garbage characters appear all over the place. I think this may be due to the fact that oXygen's reformatting actually breaks the file.

So I don't really know where to go from here. I'm unable to open content.xml in oXygen without letting it reformat the layout -- it just freezes the app -- so I'm going to try JEdit; failing that, I'll have to do all the problem editing after the file has been created, manually, which will take days.
