Description: Óðinn directs an archer
to kill Vébjörg at the
Battle of
Brávellir because he wants her to become a valkyrie
in Louis Moe's retelling of the story. Literal translation of the Danish text for page 85:
It was Óðinn’s wish to make her a Valkyrie which made him lead
her to her goal. But only through death in battle can she be
raised on high, and therefore Óðinn here approaches the young
archer, points out the shield-maiden to him and demands that he
send her to her death. The archer knows not who the commanding
figure is, but it seems to him that his demands cannot be
refused. Editor's Note.
