Abstract
Public Offices document. Minutes (2), Enclosures (untranscribed) (1).
Colvile forwards to Grey an extract of a letter from Douglas, which discusses the Fort Rupert murders, and the proceedings adopted for the accused. Further, Colvile addresses a rumour that the murder of the seamen was instigated by HBC servants, which Colvile dismisses.
In the minutes, Blackwood asks if the letter should be put by, and Merivale refers to 1801 and a draft thereon.
This file encloses an extract of a letter from Douglas to Barclay, which describes the actions taken against the murderers of the three British deserters.

My Lord,
I have the honor to forward to you herewith, an Extract of a letter received a few days ago from Mr Chief Factor Douglas relative to the proceedings adopted to punish the murderers of the three Seamen who had deserted from one of the Company's Ships.
As Mr Douglas has not in any of his letters alluded to the rumour mentioned by Governor Blanshard in his Despatch of the 18th August 1850, which attributed the murder of these unfortunate men to the instigation of the Company's Servants, I feel persuaded that the rumour was without foundation,
