The forms -wen’w- and -wen’yw- are used when they follow a back vowel, such as o. For this reason, these forms occur in the independent noun for 'tobacco'. The presence versus the absence of y in this noun root is due to the gradual disappearance of y before w in Wendat. There is no difference in meaning between any of these four forms of the noun root. |
