skändahtsehkowänen’ah |
|
Definition |
|
Part of Speech | verbal nominal |
Phonological Form | skanahtsehkowanęʔah |
Pre-Wendat Form | *skanahtsehkowanęʔah |
Notes |
Note on usage:
This term was translated in the Jesuit manuscripts as both 'cherry' and 'cherry tree', but there are multiple types of cherry trees in Wendat territory. Given the close resemblance to the term in Seneca for 'pin cherry', it is probable that this refers specifically to the pin cherry tree (Prunus pensylvanica). |
