Getting to the Japanese Canadian Monument

The Monument is located on Vancouver Island in the provincial capital of Victoria, BC, at 839 Academy Close. For most people, travel to the site will necessarily be by ferry or air. Specifically, the site is located in downtown Victoria near the legislative precinct and sits directly south of St Ann’s Academy, a short walk from the BC Legislature, the inner harbour, and Beacon Hill Park. The most common access from the Lower Mainland is by BC Ferries via Tsawwassen, to Swartz Bay.

Following the October 3 – 7 opening week events for the Japanese Canadian Monument in Victoria, the site will close again temporarily for final completion. As it will remain an active construction area, this temporary closure will allow remaining site work to continue safely. The site will close to the public from October 8 through the end of October and is expected to reopen to visitors in November.

For those people unable to travel to the Monument, this website aims to offer a rich virtual experience.

This person will be included on the monument panels in a future addition.
