Two Linguistics students with 180 hours of allotted time continue to transcribe the languages and their respective phonetic and alphabets into a modern context (XHTML). The original project was completed over 20 years ago, but its digital components have become obsolete and mostly unusable as technology changed since the early days of the Internet. Thus, transcription from the original hard copy is necessary.
This work is done in the HCMC lab, and the students have each developed some ability in XHTML, version control, and validation. So far, over 20 languages have been completed out of a total of 58. The work these two students are doing is the most laborious, and so progress is moderate.
Both students have expressed an interest in continuing to work at HCMC if that is possible in the future as work-study students or research assistants.
At this stage, a prototype is possible but would require a significant amount of time by the developer (me). I would have to liaise with faculty (namely, Sonya Bird and Sandra Kirkham).
