On Wednesday, continued work on regularizing and standardizing place references, making naming consistent and selecting a single set of coordinates for each individual place. There’s a lot of this to do, but eventually it will lead to my being able to centralize all place references into a placeography, which will be very helpful when we start to make more elaborate maps. By the end of the day, I was down to 37 places where the coordinates are absent or inconsistent.
On Thursday, continued this work, and broached the question of a centralized placeography including a bit more info on specific places with HT.
On Friday, continued with the location normalization work, and also started to clarify how we might use a centralized placeography with a hierarchical structure to handle vagueness and ambiguities in the records of deportation and migration.
