On Monday, having seen some obvious inconsistencies in the handling of placenames and locations, I added two new diagnostics and started discussions with HT on how to handle these problems. We will align all location coordinates for each single location, so each place has only one point, and we’ll also be normalizing placenames and how they’re referred to. There are some odd hangovers from the old DB where placenames end up with trailing commas; I’d like to get rid of these in the data, but for the moment I’ve enhanced the XSLT so they’re added in the output only if they’re not there in the input.
On Tuesday, began some cleanup and normalization of placename issues.
