Spent some of the weekend and most of Monday wrestling with converting the old code, where a caption was a string and could be easily parsed and manipulated, to work when captions are actually sequences of XHTML elements with @lang attributes. Finally got to the point where we have a working place hierarchy page, but the individual landing pages for locations split alphabetically are still not there yet.

Following some reconsideration on Tuesday, I decided to rework the entire site build so that there is no unified bilingual site, just two distinct monolingual sites, as we do in the Wendat dictionary project. This took a bit of reconfiguration, but it is now basically working. I also added the task to generate the Google Sitemap files at the end of the build process, since this will be an essential part of the site. The problems with place hierarchy rendering still remain; I think we will have to generated a more coherent placeography based on proper ids. However, with the language problems basically out of the way, that should be easier.
