On Tuesday, normalized some placenames in consultation with MA. I also noticed a lot of inconsistency in the use of straight versus curly apostrophes in the data we care about, and did a lot of normalization, then added Schematron to enforce the use of curly apostrophes in key locations. This caught a bunch more errors, which I fixed, but it also threw up an error in the schema build process, which still had the obsolete code for fixing the legacy-compat doctype which the TEI stylesheets used to produce, so I fixed that too, so the Landscapes schema will now build.
After that I started work on some annoyances in the Monument build process, including the fact that we generate duplicate ids in a lot of our in-house-only HTML output (not really a problem, but it causes validation errors in Oxygen).
On Wednesday I began the process of turning the spreadsheet of placenames into a proper hierarchical TEI listPlace.
On Thursday, continued encoding the placeography, and reached the individual
place level, at which point I started to include location/geo
elements
with point locations from the Vertexer. Met with MA and discussed the plans for
Ottawa, still in some flux, and also how to automate the import of registration numbers
into the LOI data. MA will also start doing some XML encoding by working on the
placeography.
On Friday, did a few more places, then reworked the schema so that our type values are available, and the hierarchy and structure of the placeography is enforced with Schematron.
