BGH got in touch recently to ask about how to record multi-volume sets in BEEED. My initial instinct was to record each set as a single collection, in large part because recording each volume of a set as a collection would result in a lot of repeition of the data for each volume. With that being said, the research questions that BGH wants to ask (eg. what plays were popular at what times) seemed to make it prudent to record to record the volumes separately, given that some sets had volumes being published several decades apart. We’ve opted to go with each volume of a set getting its own collection XML file. This is somewhat clunky, but should be neater for edge cases, hopefully.
BGH also asked me to remove series editors from the encoding, as he does not want to track those, which I have done.
