Jacob Dolson Cox was an author, politician, lawyer, and soldier who served as United
States Secretary
of the Interior from 1869 to 1870. He was born in Montréal, Lower Canada,
on 27 October 1828 and died on 4 August 1900 in
Magnolia, Massachusetts.1
