American Bar is located along the Fraser River's eastern bank, roughly six km above Hope.1 It was one of dozens of gold-rush sites mined in the area, largely from 1858 to 1859.
One correspondent for the Victoria Gazette wrote in 1858 that the American Bar is paying well. King & Co., took out 118 ounces with four rockers, in
one week, and it pays well as the water falls.2
