My Lord Duke
As the only remaining Commissioner for the N.W. American Colonies I
beg to ask of your Grace the favour of an order to the Agents for
Crown Colonies directing them to take charge of certain small
packages placed in my care for Vancouver & British Columbia.
The packages consist of books of Awards, Illustrated Catalogues,
Medals & similar articles for the Executive Committees
at Victoria and N. Westminster.
I have no public funds out of which to defray the cost of
transmission and I therefore venture to hope that you will sanction
that expense being charged by the agents to the two Governments.
I have the honour to be
My Lord Duke
Your faithful Servt John Lindley
Elliot to the Agents General, 6 February 1863, asking them to
take charge of the packages and charge the expense to the colonies.
Elliot to Lindley, 6 February 1863, advising that the agents had
been authorized to take charge of the packages.
Draft reply, Newcastle to Douglas, No. 3, 5 February 1863, transmitting a copy of Lindley's letter and informing Douglas that the agents general have been authourized to take charge of the packages.
