Paget to Rogers (Permanent Under-Secretary)
I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to send you
herewith, for the information of Her Majesty's Secretary of State for
the Colonies a Copy of a Letter from Commodore Spencer dated the
14th May, No 25, with Copies of its enclosures, relating to certain
intended proceedings against the Lamalche Indians on the East Coast
of Vancouver Island.

May 1863, reporting the assistance given by the Admiralty to bring
to justice Indians accused of murdering settlers, and enclosing
related correspondence.
Commander J.W. Pike, HMS Devastation, to Spencer, 8 May 1863,
reporting the successful conclusion of the expedition to arrest the
murderers of William Brady.
Memo, Pike to E. H. Verney, HMS Grappler, 7 May 1863, directing him
to stay at anchorage in Cowichan Harbour for three days for the
protection of the settlers.
