27th February 1858
Mr Smith presents his compliments to Mr Merivale, and begs to
state with reference to his letter of the 25th Instant, on the
subject of Captain Leonard's application for a free grant of
land on Vancouver's Island, that the copy of the reply made to
that gentleman, and referred to by Mr Merivale, has not been
received with the other Enclosure.
