I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch N 19 of the
               20 of August.

The Measures which you adopted for freeing the
Settlement from the Northern Indians appear to have been judicious, and
               to have

answered the object you had in view. I have read with
satisfaction the speech with which you opened the Session of the
               Legislature on the
12 August. With respect to the difficulty you
experienced in constituting a Committee to inquire into the validity of
the disputed Elections, it is probable that that difficulty will have
been removed before the receipt of this despatch.
