I have the honor to report that I have appointed
M James
                  Sullivan recently a Constable at
Cariboo to be Clerk to the
Magistrate and Recorder of Mining Claims in the room of
M W.M.
Cochrane believed to have been lost in the "
City of Boston" on
               his way to England.

               2. The Salary attached to the Office at present is Four hundred
pounds (£400.0.0), but is dependent upon an Annual Vote of the
Legislature. The amount is small as compared with the great
               expense of living at
Cariboo. I believe
M Sullivan to be well
qualified for the duties he has to perform, which require some
local experience, and the appointment would present little
attraction to anyone coming from a distant place to fill it.
