My Lord,
I have the honor to report that I have appointed Mr James
Sullivan recently a Constable at Cariboo to be Clerk to the
Magistrate and Recorder of Mining Claims in the room of Mr W.M.
Cochrane believed to have been lost in the "City of Boston" on
his way to England.

2. The Salary attached to the Office at present is Four hundred
pounds (£400.0.0), but is dependent upon an Annual Vote of the
Legislature. The amount is small as compared with the great
expense of living at Cariboo. I believe Mr Sullivan to be well
qualified for the duties he has to perform, which require some
local experience, and the appointment would present little
attraction to anyone coming from a distant place to fill it.
