I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to
transmit for the information of Earl Granville copies of
correspondence forwarded by Rear Admiral Honble G.F.
Hastings, in his letter of 29 June No 110, relative to the
investigation which had taken place in conjunction with the
Commanding officer of H.M. Ship Sparrowhawk into certain
outrages alleged to have been committed by the Indians on the
Crew ofthe the Barque "John Bright" wrecked in the vicinity of
Nootka Sound, North Pacific.

must be waited—except that perhaps some acknt might be made of
the readiness of the Naval Authorities to assist the local Govt.
