I have the honor to acknowledge your despatch No. 26 of the 7th of
April.
I appreciate the motives which have induced you to wish that the
Colonial Securities Company should have the encouragement of being able
to enjoy the services of
Mr. Robert Ker as a Member of their Board of
Directors.
But I strongly feel the necessity of keeping the Auditor
General in a position independent of all private pecuniary interests in
the Colony, and such as to inspire perfect confidence in the Community.
I am obliged therefore to object to allowing
Mr. Ker, so long as he
retains his office, to be also a Director of a Loan Company.
