I have the honor to acknowledge your despatch No. 43 of the 8th of May reporting that you had allowed the law to take its course in the case of an Indian Chief who had murdered his Wife.
I have to approve the course you have taken in this instance, and I fully concur in your opinion as to the inexpediency of allowingManuscript image crimes to be committed with impunity by the Native Tribes.
