I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Mr Merivale's letter of the 29th Ultimo, transmitting, by your direction, a copy of a Despatch received from Governor Douglas on the subject of the gold field on Fraser's River, and of the answer which you proposed to return thereto, and I beg, on the part of the Committee of the Hudson's Bay Company, to express their thanks for this communication.
