People uprooted from Rendezvous Island (8)
The three Rendezvous Islands, part of the Discovery Islands, are located between Vancouver Island and the BC mainland and are named based on their location: North Rendezvous, Middle Rendezvous, and Rendezvous South. The islands were largely undeveloped throughout the 1800s and early 1900s.
In 1929, Otomatsu Ishii bought half (168 acres) of North Rendezvous Island. He and his family built a homestead on the land and he worked as a fisherman. Most of the residents worked off island for nearby fisheries, canneries, and logging companies including the Knight Inlet Cannery (Glendale Cannery) in Knight Inlet. The Rendezvous Public School was located on Middle Rendezvous Island, and there are records from 1923, 1928, and 1931 of it operations.
Some Japanese Canadians living on Rendezvous Island had an address of Rendonda Bay (on nearby West Redonda Island) since that was where the post office was located.
