People uprooted from North Burnaby (14) View on map

North Burnaby, within the Burnaby area, is located on the traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Peoples. There were a few non-Indigenous settlements in North Burnaby in the early 1900s, mostly connected to the logging industry. A suburban development boom between 1900-1913 brought thousands more people to the Burnaby area. Japanese Canadians in North Burnaby were often farmers or worked in the lumber industry.

The larger municipality of Burnaby is situated at the centre of several municipalities including Vancouver, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, New Westminster, Surrey, and Richmond which may have led to address inconsistencies.

This person will be included on the monument panels in a future addition.
