People uprooted from Green Cove (2) View on map

Green Cove (formerly Elhlateese Cove), located in the Uchucklesit Inlet near Kildonan, was established when the Francis Millerd & Company’s Green Cove Saltery opened in the 1920s. The cannery had a small company town, but many Japanese Canadians lived in Vancouver and travelled seasonally to Green Cove. The saltery ended operations around 1941 after the Canadian government seized the company’s assets and the fishing boats of the Japanese Canadian employees.
