  1. Agamemnon sacrifices a bull to Zeus
  2. Agamemnon prays to Zeus that he might kill Hector
  3. Agamemnon praises the two Ajaxes and their readiness for battle
  4. Agamemnon, Diomedes, the two Ajaxes, Idomeneus, Meriones, Eurypylus, Thoas, and Odysseus all rise to challenge Hector
  5. Nestor tells Agamemnon, Diomedes, the two Ajaxes, Idomeneus, Meriones, Eurypylus, Thoas, and Odysseus to cast lots to decide who will be the Achaean champion
