Spent a long time in Zoom sessions this week:
- Cybersecurity presentation by DRAC
- Efficient IP presentation
DL set up an Arbutus object store for us. I spent some time preparing my setup and creating a bucket. Next step is to sort out the best way of filling it with pbf tiles from OSM. Probably will need to do this country by country.
Miscellaneous tasks took up more time than I would have liked, but that included a full recovery of the SSD that died the other week.
Of interest in the DRAC pressie:
- projects immediately get 40TB storage space, and an request should have no trouble getting up to 100TB
- The recommended method of moving data is Globus - I’ll need to give this a try.
- A project can include non-academic outsiders, which I didn’t know.
- Data managements plans are apparently (finally) coming as requirements for a successful grant proposal. The pressie provided a few useful links: Data management plan generator, a UVic guide to data plans, UVic’s Dataverse repo.
- It occurred to me that HCMC should be aware enough of this to be able to offer recommendations to researchers that need a repository for their data (and apparently that will be part of the whole data plan thing). Chatting with les autres came up with the idea that we could create an HCMC Zenodo node and starting pushing stuff up there when a project is ready to archive.
