Exporting Search Results

Most search results can be exported and downloaded to your computer. This lets you import the data into a spreadsheet or statistics program for detailed processing, or into a word processing document for publication.

The search results can be exported in two standard formats: Comma Separated Values (CSV) and Extensible Markup Language (XML). CSV is a common format that lists each data field with a comma between fields; this format can be imported into most spreadsheet, database and statistical programs. XML is less commonly used, but may be required by some programs.

The data can be compressed before it is downloaded to reduce the time needed to transfer it to your computer. Two compression methods are available: ZIP, commonly used on Windows systems, and GZIP, commonly used on Linux systems.

When you click the Export button, the data is processed and converted to the required format. This can take some time if the search results have many records. Once processing is complete, you will be prompted for where you want to save the file.
