Record Links
Census, directory and tax assessment records can be linked to show relationships between the records; for example, a "John Smith" in the 1891 Census might be linked to a "John Smith" in an 1891 tax assessment to show that they are the same person. An icon ( ) will appear at the right in the census, directory and tax assessment search results if the record has any links to other records. Click the icon to see a list of the linked records.
At the top of the record links list page is displayed the name of the person or business that the set of links is for. The record type (census, directory or tax assessment) and year of the record are also displayed. Clicking on the name will display a page listing all known details for that person or business.
In the record link list there are columns: Name, Link type, Table, Year, and Notes.
- Name is the name of the person or business that has been linked to. Clicking on the name will display a page listing all known details for that person or business.
- Link type indicates the kind of link. This will be something like "Same person", "Property owner", or other labels.
- Table is the name of the table (census, directory, or tax assessment) the linked record is from.
- Year is the census, directory or tax assessment year.
- Notes contains comments or other data relating to the link, usually indicating why the two records were linked or providing additional information about one or both records.
The results data can be sorted on any column that has sort buttons [ ] displayed. Click the up arrow button [ ] to sort the column in ascending order, or the down arrow button [ ] to sort in descending order. If the sort buttons do not appear for a column, that column cannot be sorted on.
