Icons
Various icons are used throughout the viHistory site. Below is a brief description of each icon.

Show details | Click on this icon to view additional details for the corresponding record. The additional information will appear below the selected record. |

Hide details |
When the details for a results row are visible, this icon will apear in place of the
icon. Clicking it will hide the details.

Show all |
This icon will appear in the header row of some search results tables. Clicking it will reveal
the details for every row in the table, just as though you had clicked all of the
icons.

This icon will appear in the header row of some search results tables. Clicking it will hide
the details for every row in the table, just as though you had clicked all of the
icons.

Annotate | Click on this icon to suggest an annotation for a corresponding record. |

Annotations | Click on this icon to view annotations submitted for a corresponding record. |
 |
Links | Census, directory and tax assessment records can be linked to show relationships between the records; for example, a "John Smith" in the 1891 Census might be linked to a "John Smith" in an 1891 tax assessment to show that they are the same person. This icon will appear in the census, directory and tax assessment search results if the record has any links to other records. Click the icon to see a list of the linked records. |

Popup menu | Click on this icon to open a list of possible values for a search field. |

Map | Click on this icon to view a related map. |

External link | This icon indicates that the link it is next to is an external link. Clicking the link will take you out of the viHistory site to another web site. |
 |
Email link | This icon indicates that the link it is next to is an email link. Clicking the link will take you to a form where you can send an email message to the person named in the link. |
 |
Information | Click on this icon to view additional information related to the item. The information will appear on a new page. |

Table Sort |
This icon is found in the header row of most search results tables.
Click on one of the arrows to sort the table by that column, either ascending
 (A-Z) or descending
 (Z-A).
The column that the table is currently
sorted on will have one of the arrows in red.

Export | This icon appears in the navigation bar of most search results. Clicking it will take you to a page where you can export the results to your computer for use in other programs. |

Bookmark | This icon appears in the navigation bar of most search results. Clicking it will create a bookmark in your browser to allow you to quickly repeat the same search. |
 |
First | This icon appears in the navigation bar of search results. Clicking it will take you to the first page of search results. |
 |
Last | This icon appears in the navigation bar of search results. Clicking it will take you to the last page of search results. |
 |
Next | This icon appears in the navigation bar of search results. Clicking it will take you to the next page of search results. |
 |
Previous | This icon appears in the navigation bar of search results. Clicking it will take you to the previous page of search results. |
 |
This icon indicates the availability of a Portable Document Format (PDF) file,
suitable for viewing on screen or printing; most PDF files can also be searched.
