The Greyfriars (Franciscans)

Founded by Saint Francis of Assisi in 1209, the Greyfriars, or the Order of the Friars Minor are a mendicant organization that arrived in England from Italy in 1224. Devoted to following the teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Franciscans occupied the Greyfriars Church until Henry VIII’s closure of the Monestaries in 1538 (Kingsford 2).
