I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 65
of the
15th August, submitting the question of an alteration in the
terms of the Oath of Allegiance taken upon entering the Volunteer Force
in
Vancouver Island, so as to allow of the admission of non-naturalized
British subjects into the Corps.
I have referred this suggestion to
Earl de Grey, who concurs with
me in considering that it would not be advisable to admit the proposed
alteration.
