Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Separate Despatch
dated 18th February 1865 enclosing a Commission "for the formal
appointment of D. Cameron Esqre to the office of Judge of the Vice
Admiralty Court."
This Commission is erroneously made out in the name of "DanielCameron
Cameron," whereas the name of the Chief Justice of this Colony is
"David Cameron."

I transmitted the Commission to His Honor on the 10th May 1865
calling his attention to the error in the name, but having received
no communication from him on the subject I presume he is of opinion
that the error does not invalidate the Commission.

The name of "David" was properly given to the Admiralty in Our Letter of the 24 Jany 1865 but the Admiralty appear to have substituted a wrong name and the question now is whether a valid appointment of a Judge of the V.A.
Court at Vancouver Island has really been made in
the first instance. I wrote privately to Mr Rothery on the subject
and you will see what he says in reply. He appears to think that it
is unnecessary to issue any fresh appointment.

error made with regard to his name.
