I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 40
               of the
1st of August, and to transmit to you a copy of a letter from the

Board of Trade from which you will learn that the Stores required for
               the service of the
Race Rocks and
Fisgard Island Light Houses have been
shipped on board the Steamer "
Fusi Yama," appointed

 to sail on the
24th
                  instant.

As soon as the Bill for these Stores is received from the Board of
Trade, the Colonial Agents will be instructed to pay it, and you will be
duly apprized of the amount; but in the meanwhile I am desirous to call
your attention to the present state of the Agents' Account with the
Colony. After deducting the sum of £551..18..9 overpaid by them, of
which you were informed by my despatch of the
30th of August last, from
the sum of £600 remitted by you, as reported in your despatch of the
4th
of November, a balance of only £48 remains to the
credit
 credit of the Colony.

It will therefore be necessary for you, not only to remit a sum
sufficient to meet the cost of these stores, but also to supply the
Agents with funds to enable them to satisfy any other demands which may
be made upon them from time to time for the service of
Vancouver Island.
