I have the honour to inform Your Grace that I caused Writs to be
issued on the
13 of July last for the election of Representatives
to serve in the House of Assembly, the said Writs being made
returnable on the
18 day of August Instant.
3.
M Young, the Colonial Secretary, presented himself with my
sanction as a Candidate for the City of
Victoria and was returned at
the head of the Poll, a Compliment at once to his own Personal
Qualities
and manifesting the strong interest felt by the public in
placing a Member of the Government in the House. The character of
the other Members is highly respectable and with few exceptions their
political views are conservative.
4. Parliament now stands convened for the second day of September
next when it will meet for the transaction of business.
