I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 10
of the
27th of February last, suggesting that some arrangement should be
made with the
Hudson's Bay Company for the sale of the Land in
Vancouver Island claimed by them on the ground of occupation prior to
1849.
All questions regarding this land have been set at rest by the
Agreement concluded with the Company a copy of which was communicated to
you in my despatch No. 84 of the
24th of January last. That agreement
will have put it in the power of the Governor to dispose of all land in
the
Town of Victoria not previously disposed of to others, with the
exception
of of some small reservations for the Company, and will therefore
have met the object proposed in your present despatch.
