With reference to my Despatch N 22 of the
24 April last,
announcing the opening of the third Session of the Second Parliament
of
Vancouver Island, I have now to communicate
that that shortly after its
first meeting the House of Assembly Entered upon the consideration of
the annual Estimates as submitted by my authority, and voted the
moneys, as per the accompanying Schedules [marginal note: N 1, 2,
3 & 4], amounting altogether to the Sum of Twenty five thousand four
hundred and fifty one Pounds (£25,451), for the service of the Year
1862—being Two Hundred and Sixty five pounds (£265) short of the
proposed Expenditure for that period; and the
House House is, I have no
doubt, prepared to grant any further Sums that the public exigencies
may demand.
2. The Legislature has, since the commencement of the Session, been
also engaged with matters of Great local interest, which I will bring
before Her Majesty's Government—should it appear necessary—at the
close of the Session—and have moreover passed an Act to authorize
the Governor to borrow money for temporary purposes,
to to which I have
given my assent.
There is nothing else of much importance connected with the
proceedings of the Legislature to communicate.
